The CDIFS Solver

The Constant Density Incompressible Flow Solver (CDIFS) integrates the Navier-Stokes equations:

$$\begin{align} \frac{\partial \boldsymbol{u}}{\partial t} +\nabla\cdot (\boldsymbol{u}\boldsymbol{u})&=&-\frac{1}{\rho}\nabla p+\nu \nabla^2\boldsymbol{u}+\boldsymbol{f}_b+\boldsymbol{f}_\mathrm{IB}\\ \nabla\cdot\boldsymbol{u}&=&0 \end{align}$$

where $\rho$ and $\nu$ are constant density and viscosity, respectively. The solver supports the following features:

• The following bodyforces via $\mathbf{f}_b$:
  • gravity,
  • constant pressure gradient.
• Immersed Boundaries via $\mathbf{f}_\mathrm{IB}$ for:
• Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of flow around complex geometries,
• Particle-Resolved Direct Numerical Simulations (PR-DNS) of flows with fully resolved spherical particles.

The solver uses the Volume-Filtering Immersed Boundary Method (VFIB) developed by the Kasbaoui Research Group.
